We had an insightful conversation with Abhisek Baheti, Founder of WatchOut Wearables, during CES 2025. He shared his journey of creating India's first AI-powered smartwatch for kids, tackling challenges in child safety, curiosity, and connectivity. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

Abhishek: I’m Abhishek, the founder of WatchOut Wearables. I’ve been passionate about creating innovative tech solutions that address real-world problems, especially in the kids' tech space. We’ve been in this industry for a few years, working to make technology safer and more engaging for children. We’ve been in the kids' smart wearables space for the past three years. Last year, we were featured on Shark Tank India, and this year, we’re here at CES to launch our AI-powered kids' smartwatch.

Q: What does your product do, and what makes it unique?

Abhishek: Our target audience is kids between 4 to 13 years old. Our smartwatch focuses on three key features: safety, connectivity, and curiosity.

  1. Safety: The watch has GPS location tracking and an SOS button so parents can always know their child's whereabouts.

  2. Connectivity: It has cellular connectivity, allowing kids to call their parents when needed.

  3. Curiosity: This is the game-changer. We’ve integrated a teddy bear-themed AI assistant that kids can ask questions like, Why is the sky blue? or What’s a butterfly? The watch also has an AI object detection camera that helps kids identify objects around them and even translate information into 20 languages.

Q: What differentiates your product from other wearables for kids?

Abhishek: The biggest differentiator is that our product integrates AI-powered learning tools, making it one of the most advanced smartwatches for kids on the market. We’ve even applied for a patent on our technology to protect this innovation. While other smartwatches focus on safety and connectivity, we’ve taken it a step further by adding AI-powered learning tools. We’ve applied for a patent on our technology

Q: What challenges have you faced around kids' security and data privacy?

Abhishek: Security is a major concern for us. We’ve developed an AI-driven content moderation system to ensure that kids receive safe and appropriate responses to their queries. For example, if a kid asks a negative or inappropriate question, our AI is designed to redirect them to consult their parents instead of providing an answer.

In terms of location data, only parents can access it. We have an app that binds with the watch and locks the device to ensure no one else can track the child’s location.

Q: What market insights inspired you to create this product?

Abhishek: We noticed that parents, especially working parents, want to stay connected with their kids. Safety is always a top concern, and the ability to know their child’s location gives them peace of mind.

We also saw a trend in kids being curious and using voice assistants like Alexa. We thought, why not bring that functionality to a wearable device that’s always with them? Additionally, language learning is becoming increasingly popular. We integrated a feature that allows kids to learn new languages through object detection.

Q: How do you use data to improve your product and go-to-market strategy?

Abhishek: We’re currently launching in the US and Europe markets through crowdfunding platforms. We’ve been collecting data on what parents value most—whether it’s AI features, pricing, or usability. Throughout CES, we’ve gathered user feedback to refine our product and strategy.

Q: Can you share your experience on Shark Tank India?

Abhishek: Shark Tank India was a fantastic experience. It gave us a platform to reach a wider audience and gain credibility. Before Shark Tank, we struggled with brand visibility, but being on the show built trust with parents. It also helped us secure funding to scale our operations.

Q: What are your long-term goals for WatchOut Wearables?

Abhishek: Our immediate goal is to launch our Kickstarter campaign within the next three months and ship around 5,000 units to the US market. In the long term, we plan to expand our product line to include kids' phones and hearables. We want to become a leading brand in kids' tech.

Q: How do you see consumer behavior evolving in the kids' tech space?

Abhishek: AI is becoming inevitable. Kids will get exposed to AI in one way or another. Our goal is to make sure their first experience with AI is designed to be engaging, educational, and appropriate for children, ensuring a safe learning environment. We want to create an ecosystem that parents can trust.

Q: Any final thoughts you’d like to share?

Abhishek: We’re really excited about our product and hope people will visit our prelaunch page to learn more and give us feedback. We’re committed to improving and providing the best experience for kids and parents.
